Jason Pu, Founder and President

Jason Pu is the founder and President of jd8 Records. His deep passion for music, involvement in the community and expertise in business and legal affairs are at the heart of everything the company does.

As a kid, he could be found singing along to the radio and teaching himself to play guitar.  At Stanford, he spent most of his time writing and recording songs and playing in bands.  He got hands-on recording and production experience in the recording studio at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics where he recorded and produced his own music, as well as that of other campus bands.

He also dedicated a lot of his time to public service and causing trouble as an activist for Asian American Studies.  Apparently, he didn’t know that he was supposed to be attending Stanford University for some kind of useful degree.  After helping to mobilize students, faculty and staff and organizing teach-ins, hunger strikes and rallies, Jason had the honor of presenting to the Faculty Senate for the creation of Stanford’s Asian American Studies program under a new Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity department.

After college, Jason went to law school at UCLA and practiced commercial finance and corporate and business transactions law for five years before pursuing his vision of an independent music company dedicated to the Asian American community and Asian American artists.  For Jason, jd8 Records is much more than a music label that produces and distributes great new music.  It’s a vehicle to fill the void in the music industry for Asian American artists and create inspiring role models for young Asian Americans everywhere.

Jason has a B.A. from Stanford University and a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.  He has a hand in producing all of the artists signed to jd8 Records and manages business development, legal affairs, artist development and artist promotion for the company.

Lonny Chu, Director of New Media

Lonny Chu is the Director of New Media for jd8 Records. Like Jason, he spent a great deal of time at Stanford working with music. In addition to writing his own music, Lonny also spent countless hours in the recording studio producing and engineering tracks for campus bands. He also spent his time at Stanford's radio station KZSU where he was a DJ as well as Director and Sound Engineer for Wednesday Night Live, a weekly show that broadcast a 1 hour live performance of a Bay Area band on, you guessed it, Wednesday nights. During this time he worked with many terrific up and coming Bay Area acts such as Green Day, Primus, Overwhelming Colorfast, Spot 1019, Thinking Fellers Local 282, Jonathan Segal, Loud Family, Barbara Manning, Sister Double Happiness, Henry Kaiser, and many, many more.

Lonny has a Ph.D. from Stanford in Computer Music and has founded a number of hi-tech startups. Currently, he runs Furiant Consulting, a firm specializing in user experience design and analysis in addition to being a part of the jd8 Records team.
